Two kinds of training

Nationally recognised training

Shotfirer courses

Michael is an approved trainer and assessor for nationally recognised surface and underground shotfirer training.

This training is nationally recognised training delivered on behalf of Blast Management International Pty Ltd, RTO 31459. BMI is the registered training organisation. MJS Mining Services delivers the training and assessment as a third party under written agreement with BMI. BMI RTO (31459) manage student enrolment, compliance, and issuance of qualifications.
MJS workshops

Blasting workshops and on site training

These are not nationally recognised training. They do not lead to a qualification or a statement of attainment. They are Michael’s own courses, built for the operation that asks for them.

  • Advanced blast management, for engineers and supervisors
  • Highly sensitive and controlled blasting
  • Practical mentoring at the face
  • Competency assessment and review

Delivered for Orica engineers in Malaysia, at Sukari in Egypt, and in Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Senegal, Taiwan, China, Singapore and Dubai. Michael also developed and ran the postgraduate course in Safe Drill and Blasting Management at the UNSW Key Centre for Mines.
